About the Artist

Hi, I'm Nolnir, but please call me Starry. Just to be clear!: NOLNIR is my website name, but Nolnir is my artist name as well as the name of one of my characters (It's confusing, I know, but that's why I prefer 'Starry,' lol).

I love creating characters, writing stories, playing video games and programming. I have an undying love for mascot characters and retro stuff. My hobbies include:

figure collecting!
niche interest deep dives
blasting my ears out with moe denpa songs
indulging in obscure anime and video games
watching j-idol live performances. (I'll miss you Dempagumi.inc!!)

A. Just draw what you love and learn to draw it well. You'll get better from there....Oh and the price tag of the tools you use doesn't matter, it won't make you a better artist blasting thousands on a pen tablet.

BlueSky → I normally don't respond to messages on Bsky as I find it too informal and somewhat difficult to vet out scams and disingenuous contacts. I may respond if the message is rather serious, otherwise just contact me through the form.

I may or may not accept work / commission requests, though I'm more bias towards NDA / contracted work that have a longer delivery schedule. I encourage you send me a message regardless of whether you think I'll take you up on your work offer or not.

About NOLNIR

Established on December 18th, 2014, this website was the beginning of Starry's freelancing journey. This website serves as a place to archive all their personal works, as well as a place to constantly update their audience on activities and/or any additions made to the website. Because of Starry's programming background and stubborn personality, all parts of the website is coded from scratch—~~typically with some kind of outdated knowledge of HTML and CSS that usually backfires; it's okay though, they're stubborn personality also lends to their stubborn need to learn and try new things!~~ now with updated knowledge!—they still somehow refuse to use more modern means of building websites...

History

Humble Beginnings

(2014-2015)

The website was first designed to be a small little hub for information. It linked a few things here and there, but it wasn't too significant. Starry had been using Twitter for the most part, and didn't see any importance in properly archiving their works. Of course, this would later be punished in the form of a storage wipe.

Divine Punishment

(2016)

Starry had an incredible focus on attending conventions to sell their artwork. Because of this, they had forgotten about their personal works and left the website to catch dust. Due to neglect, fate decided to run its course and inflict the worst form of punishment any digital artist could be faced with: a data wipe. In July of 2016, Starry returned from a convention trip to a PC that refused to boot properly. Taking their PC to g**k sq**d (despite their computer-literate background), it seems the employees there decided to reinstall the OS onto the hard drive, formatting their hard drive in the process. All that was saved was a folder on their desktop labeled 'memes.' That incident has taught Starry the harsh lesson of needing to have back ups for their back ups for their back ups (and that memes are forever, probably).

The website needed a facelift, but there were no assets to work with. The only updates the website had recieved were back-end updates.

Pensive Silence

(2018-2020)

Starry had closed the website sometime late 2018. It remained closed for a year and a few months. It was a particularly sad time, as Starry had to make big decisions in their personal life that affected their ability to continue being active online. Luckily some kind of balance was restored, but there was a point in 2019 where Starry had wiped their original Twitter account and moved on. The website finally reopened early 2020 with a massive facelift. Not only was the back end updated, but so were the assets. Only minor updates to the website continued since then.

Renaissance

(2021-2023)

A few functions of the website had broken down and needed updates, especially the content management system. This was updated sometime in 2022. Since Starry had begun to focus on attending conventions again to sell their works, 2021 was a particularly quiet year for the website. Around 2022 came most of the updates, but it wasn't until early 2023 had a real update been implemented. The website was reworked from the ground up, with brand new back end workings and a semi-new layout that was easier to navigate—especially on mobile. The entire development was logged on NOLNIR Box (at the moment, the post is not available, come back later!). Massive shifts in Starry's personal life lead to a brand new focus when it came to freelance work. NOLNIR's 9th birthday was celebrated on stream late in 2023, where plenty of new assets were created for the website, along with a brand new direction in work and mindset. This breathed new life into not only the website but Starry's works to come.

Diligence

(2024-now)

The website has recieved its 4th massive facelift, only partially entering its v4 phase midway through 2025. Starry's been quite active online again, but only to post their work and leave. (section under construction)
